Saturday I had my hair up in a dancers’ bun, Sunday it was curly and free ,Monday I sported an updo. Never once did I shampoo, use a curling iron or flat iron. What kind of hair offers this kind of versatility, Sisterlocks? What is that? First let me tell you what it is not. Sisterlocks are not dreads, extensions or braids. Sisterlocks is a lifestyle of natural hair. Natural hair means not chemically processed.
My friend Danielle kept telling me about Sisterlocks for almost two years. I was considering dreads—because I wanted the freedom of no more chemicals and I saw some men whose hair was just plain “pretty”! I admired this look on them but wondered what would it take for me. Men’s hair grows fast and of course what I was seeing had been 4 or 5 years in the making/growing.I wanted the freedom of dreads, but not the look that associated with negative feedback from the majority culture. I wanted the freedom to be able to style my hair and wear various styles. As an entrepreneur I come in contact with many cultures and I needed to maintain a professional look.
I took Danielle’s advice and made my move—May 2008, I saw my consultant and entered into a 27 hour process—no not all in one day! Anyone who knows me knows that I have a lot of irons in the fire so this was a three day process—sometimes twice a day until we were done. Sisterlocks are installed by a certified Sisterlock consultant. If the person is not certified, it is NOT Sisterlocks. If you email me, tdcelebrations@cox.net I can give you my consultant’s name and number locally, but you can go to the official Sisterlocks site to located a certified consultant in your area.
Sisterlocks are not limited to long and flowing. Your hair can be cut into a style, like a bob, or in an updo.
The other questions I get is how long does it take? What can I use to style my hair? Do I shampoo Sisterlocks, what is the maintenance and how do I sleep?
I have included many hyperlinlks that give you an idea about sisterlocks. But I must credit my good friend who now lives in Baltimore, Danielle, who researched and urged me to make that move to the Sisterlocks lifestyle.

I have been Sisterlocked since May 2008. Yes when Sisterlocks were installed, I still had “perm” on the ends of my hair.AS every snowfglake is unique, so is our hair. My hair has no wave pattern, so unstyled, it appears straight. Some have very wavy patterns and appears to be Raggedy Ann like. Whatever your curl pattern and long or short, if you want to be natural, I suggest Sisterlocks.
Let’s get the party started with natural HAIR, a true Sisterlocks Celebration.
